Householder appeals succeed more often than most.

If your householder planning application was refused, here is some good news. Figures from the Planning Inspectorate show that householder appeals (extensions, loft conversions, porches and similar) are allowed more often than most other types of planning appeal.

A refusal is not the final word. On appeal, an independent Inspector looks at your case afresh. Get a free review of your own case to see where you stand.

The key figures

  • About 36 in every 100 householder appeals were allowed in 2025/26.
  • About 32 in every 100 across all types of development put together.
  • About 24 in every 100 for small housing schemes of under 10 homes.

What this means for you

Many refused householder schemes are allowed when an Inspector reviews them.

These are national averages, not a promise about any one case. That is why Planzo starts with a free review and tells you honestly whether an appeal is worth making.
