Planning appeals are getting faster.
Planning appeals are speeding up. The latest government figures on appeal timescales, published in August 2026, show a clear improvement in just three months.
A faster appeal means less waiting, less uncertainty and an earlier start on your plans, whether that is an extension, a loft conversion or a new porch. Get a free review of your own case to see if an appeal makes sense for you.
The key figures
- 56.9% of written appeals were decided within 20 weeks in the year to June 2026.
- Three months earlier the figure was 50.7%.
- Fewer of the longest inquiry appeals now take over a year: 9.9%, down from 14.0%.
Why it matters
Written appeals are the route householders use, so they feel this improvement directly.
The Planning Inspectorate’s own efforts to bring down waiting times appear to be working, and the trend is heading in the right direction.
See how long a typical householder appeal takes: decided in about 12 weeks.
Put the faster timescales to use
Planzo handles householder appeals only, in writing, for a flat £690. It is a no win, no fee planning appeal service: nothing upfront, and the fee is only due if your appeal is allowed.
